Applications to the Board
How can I file an application with the Board?You can make an application in person at any Landlord and Tenant Board office, or you can go to one of the ServiceOntario Centres that accepts Board applications. You can also mail, courier or fax your application to a Landlord and Tenant Board office. If you are not filing in person, you must include your payment for the application, or the application will not be processed. (See next two questions) How much does an application cost?This depends on the type of application. For some types of applications, there is no cost. How will I know if an application has been filed against me?In most cases, it is the responsibility of the person who filed the application (the applicant) to let the other party (the respondent) know that an application has been filed against them. The applicant must give the respondent a copy of the application and a copy of the Notice of Hearing that tells them when and where the hearing will be held. For more information see the brochures:
In addition, when an application is filed, the Board will usually send a letter to the respondent. The letter tells the respondent that an application has been filed and if a hearing has been scheduled, the letter will also provide information about the date and time of the hearing. What can I do if an application is filed against me?When an application is filed, the Board will schedule a hearing. If you want to dispute the application, you should appear at the hearing on the date and at the time set out in the Notice of Hearing.
