Dr. Lilian Ma

ASSOCIATE CHAIR

Dr. Lilian Ma, B.Sc., Ph.D., LL.B., has been a member of the Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada since 1994. Her 18-year public sector career includes a variety of prestigious positions: member of the Liquor Licence Board of Ontario; chief of the Public Education Division of the Race Relations Directorate of Multiculturalism Canada of the Secretary of State from 1988 to 1989; and commissioner for the Ontario Human Rights Commission from 1986 to 1988.

Dr. Ma has earned a law degree from the University of Toronto (1992), a doctorate in chemistry from Simon Fraser University (1971) and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Hong Kong (1967).

Dr. Ma is a member of the Canadian Bar Association and sat on its Racial Equality Implementation Committee from 2000 to 2004. She was a founding director and held several board positions on the Chinese Canadian National Council from 1980 to 1994, and was a founding director of the National Organization of the Immigrant and Visible Minority Women of Canada from 1986 to1988.
